A reason to teach

It is that time of year, everyone around Sunnyside land is gearing up for the end of the school year. Seniors are paying off those lost textbooks and library fines, freshmen are going around begging for a better grade. I love this time of year.

Today an ex-student of mine who is now graduating came by to give me a card and say thanks. I really didn't understand at first since I have not had her in class for 3 years. I have seen her around school and once wrote a recommendation for a scholarship but that is it. Well she came by to tell me that during her year in my class she decided that she loved Science. She had not liked the subject in middle school but I changed her mind. She has been accepted to Chapman University in Monterey and she is going to major in Marine Biology. That made my whole year.

You may just have a student for one year but that impact can be huge. The other part is some of us never had a teacher more than once and weren't on any teams so that 1 shot is all any teacher had.

That's pretty cool man. I have the highest respect for teachers. You guys deserve the salary the professional athletes make!

2 Teach is 2 Touch a Life 4 Ever
Way to go baby brother! Must be those familial teacher genes. Cherish the ones who let you know what you meant to them (and then bring out the memories on those dark days of teaching we all have at one time or another. Way to Go!
