It was a great season

Tonight was the last official practice of the season for the Central Valley Water Polo club men's masters team. We started way back January and have been training 2 or 3 nights a week ever since. Some of our guys went to the World Masters in Australia in March. We hosted our own tournament in April. We went to a tournament in Ventura in May and we played in the US National Championships in June. It was a really fun season but it is time to hang up the Speedo until next January. We might have one more exhibition game to start Fresno Pacific's season (we are supposed to be the Washington National's to them but they have another thing coming) late in August. It was fun and I thank God for every day that he continues to let me play this sport. Many of my friends who I have played with over the last 27 years have quit out of financial, physical or marital necessity. I cherish every season I can continue to play.

What Cereal would you be?

So today we were watching the Yankees play the Red Sox. The kids were totally cracking up over one of the Red Sox outfielders name. His name is Coco Crisp. We looked it up and his name is actually Covelli but he has gone by Coco since childhood. During dinner, I asked the family the question, "If you were going to have a cereal name, what would it be?"

Jim = Count Chocula

Lisa = Captain Crunch (Coco's cousin)

Our Boy = Life

Our Girl = Apple Jacks
What cereal name would you choose?

By the way, the Yankees whooped the Red Sox 10-3.

Thanks to Callahan for the idea.

Bon Voyage

Tomorrow is the big day. Since the cruise ship charges something like $37 a minutes to use their Internet, I probably won't blog much this week. Maybe I can pirate some locals WiFi. The question is, can I hack in Espanol? We will keep a travel journal so I can do all the updates when we get back. By the way, while we are gone; don't think about breaking into our house. I have my buddy Chuck Norris watching the place for us.

VBS & Hoops for Hope

This week was a lot of fun. Lisa, the kids and I all did the VBS thing Monday - Friday. This year was super nice for us. Some of you may know that at our old church, over the past 3 years we have been the VBS directors. This year, I took pictures and helped with tech and Lisa did crafts for 5th & 6th graders. It was so nice to go home after VBS and not be up until 2:00 am working on registration, curriculum and well... everything. Check out the VBS stuff here. I did the stills stuff and Josh did the videos.

Tonight, we went back to church to participate in Hoops for Hope. This is a totally cool event. Kids shoot baskets for a pledge. The money goes to build a school in Africa for kids who have been orphaned by AIDS. An 11 year old kid came up with the idea 4 years ago and with that same spirit, NewCov had the youth department lead this one. They asked me to make a video to show on Sunday so here it is.

6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon

My bud Patmo recently had a fun post about Kevin Bacon. If you are not familiar with the game, you are supposed to find a link from yourself to Kevin Bacon in 6 moves or less. The game is called the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon. Here is Pat's:
1. My sister.
2. Who is friends with Brian.
3. Who produced Telling Lies in America starring Kevin Bacon (as Billy Magic).

He challenged everyone else who in turn just took the easy way out and added themselves in above #1. Like this, I know Pat who... Yeah, that is weak! Well, my link to the Baconator already has 6 moves so you can't just add your name on top of mine and yes, Callahan is off limits.

Here is mine:
I (1) know my Buddy Tim Lewis (2) who has a brother (3) did the set design for Pirates of the Caribbean. (4) Johnny Depp was in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007) with (5) Dominic Scott Kay. (Who played young Will Turner) Dominic Scott Kay was in Saving Angelo (2007) with (6) Kevin Bacon.

Try it for yourself.

Little Swimmer

The youngest has been having some nice success in swimming. Here are some nice ribbons that she won over the last two weeks. Her brother is having fun but in the words of his coach, "He swims like a water polo player." Good for him!

Another Fun Project

Here is one more piece I did for the upcoming VBS. This has been a really fun set of projects and it reminded me how much fun it is to hang around with Corbett.

Cool new camera

We officially made the switch over to 100% digital cameras in 2003. At that time I bought Lisa a Pentax and we bought an HP photo printer. Since then, it has been awesome and we have not bought a single roll of film. Well, after 5 years of hard service, her 3 mega pixel Pentax is beginning to die. It makes a grinding sound whenever the lens moves and it often is way off on focus. With our upcoming vacation, we decided to get a new point & shoot. I decided on the Olympus 1030. It is 10 mega pixels and it is super tough. It can get dropped from 6 feet and a 220 pound person can sit on it and not break it.
The coolest part is that it can go down to 33 feet underwater. Since I don't scuba, and I can't free dive deeper than about 20 feet; this camera is perfect. Last night I took it to water polo practice with me and tested it out in the diving pool.
It even has this really sweet panorama mode. You take a series of 3 pictures and it stitches them together in the camera.

Yeah, Okay... Tag

My buddy Steve tagged me with this thing. It is so surprising that he would play along. He usually is one of the most resistant guys to this kind of stuff. Well, he has been gone for like a week so I was able to put this off but now he is back so I have to do it.

A. Attached or Single: Attached.
B. Best Friend: Lisa. She still loves me even though I basically disappear from Aug-Nov for water polo.
C. Cake or Pie: Pie. Favorite quote: Get in the kitchen and make me some pie! - Eric Cartman.
D. Day of Choice: Saturday. Mowin-mowin.
E. Essential Item: Wow. Power tools - Air tools... tough one.
F. Flavor of Ice Cream: Double choc malted crunch. Ice cream and beer all in one nice package.
G. Gummy bears or Worms: How about none of that crapola!
H. Hometown: Clovis, it's a way of life.
I. Indulgences: I almost always avoid cheap pizza. If it cost $10 for a jumbo, I probably am not so supportive about ordering it. A pizza should cost $20. $15 is okay if you have a coupon.
J. January or July: How about both. So many people complain about being too hot or too cold. I like to enjoy stuff during both seasons.
K. Kids: Got em, love em.
L. Last Movie I saw in a Theater: Iron Man. It rocked.
M. Middle Name: F.
N. Number of Siblings: 2
O. Orange or Apples: Both, I'm hungry.
P. Phobias or fears: Not fond of riding a motorcycle across a bridge during a windstorm.
Q. Quote: Get in the kitchen and make me some pie!
R. Reasons to Smile: Salvation in Jesus Christ. (I copied and pasted Steve's but really...is there a better answer here?)
S. Season: Fall. I love that time of year when you are working outside and suddenly it dawns on you... "hey, I am getting cold here."
T. Tag 3: Patmo, Jesse & Parker. And no fair moving out of the state to get away.
U. Unknown fact about me: I was an All-American swimmer before I got old and fat.
V. Vegetarian or Oppressor of Animals: Oppressor/BBQer. Members of PETA need to try my slow cooked baby backs!
W. Worst Habit: Technology. Don't know what I would do if we did not have electricity.
X. X-rays or Ultra-sounds: X-rays but the kind used to study distant stars. (It's a science teacher thing.)
Y. Your favorite food: Tacos, Ribs, Chocolate, Cajun. You did not say I had to stick to one.
Z. Zodiac: Yeah, I hate that crap. I don't believe in it. Homey don't play that.
