More Crane Fun

I got some time today and took the crane outside to play. It was nice to get some practice. Here is what I shot.

Funny Video

Right now I am finishing up a couple of videos. This makes me happy because for the first time in months, I have nothing on a tape or hard drive that has a due date looming over my head. I do have a shoot coming up next weekend that I am excited about doing but as soon as I finish these two projects, I am clear for the week. So I am to the part of editing video that is easy but time consuming... the render. When a video is done, you have to render it out to some type of usable format. (DVD, AVI, whatever) Even with a fast computer, this takes time. So while I was rendering something, I was looking at all of my pals blogs and I found this video on one of Jesse's friends list. http://juuleeya.blogspot.com/ I love music and I love those funny Internet videos that everyone sends around. This has both and I thought you would enjoy it too.

Sushi Sunday

Last night our good buddies the Thurmans came over for sushi and tempura. We did the sushi, they did the tempura. Very nice.

Here is Master tempura chef Lisa preparing the shrimp.

Philly Roll - Yo Adrianne

What a dork!

Special Tempura Roll

California roll - substitute krab for shrimp.

Ready to eat.

After dinner, Steve entertained us with his flute. Who's the dork now?

Weekend Water Polo

This weekend I took the boy with me and we went down to Ventura to play with my club in a Master's Water Polo tournament. It was a really fun tournament. My friends Rick and Bryan both took their sons as well. We had two games on Saturday and played very well. We beat two other 40+ year old teams and then faced some younger guys on Sunday. We actually did pretty well against the 20 year old's losing each game by 2 goals. Saturday night was the best. All of the visiting teams stayed in 8 campsites on the same circle at McGrath State Beach. During the day we killed each other in the pool and that night shared a beer, played some volleyball and got to know the other athletes around the campfire. We even played hide and go seek with our sons. The next morning we held a short church service with some of our team and the Fresno Pacific water polo team. One guy brought a guitar and we sang a few songs, heard a short passage from Psalms then had one of the Pacific students prayed for us. Very cool weekend!

Yosemite

Yesterday the boy and I went on his school field trip to Yosemite. It made for a nice but totally tiring extension to a long weekend. I was already tired from playing water polo all weekend but yesterday did me in. We got to the park and the bus dropped us off at the Wawona hotel for a while. From there we drove to Yosemite Falls and then walked up to Happy Isles. With the hot weather we have been having this past week, the waterfalls and the rivers were really going. After a while there, we walked back to Curry Camp then over to the main store for some shopping. We finished up by walking to the bus near Yosemite Falls. I was very tired by the time we got home and both the boy and I slept great last night.

New Camera Crane

So back in the day when Crosseyed Media was all local, we had access to all kinds of cool video gadgetry. My buddy Tim had all the lighting. Evan had the camera crane and dolly and I had the sound stuff and one of the cameras. Well Tim is now the technical arts guy at Peoples Church in Fresno so he is too busy to go out and play anymore. Evan is going through Fuller Seminary in Pasadena and I am still here working. What this has meant is that I have had to buy some of my own equipment to replace the equipment of my missing friends. Well, I have been shopping for a camera crane for months. I even thought of making one myself but thought it would look a bit cheap showing up at a clients office with "ghetto crane" so I bit the bullet and bought one. It arrived today and it works great. This footage is literally the first movement I practiced with the crane. It was well worth the money. I am looking forward to the added versatility this will give me.

Funny thing at church today

So this morning my buddy Pat Callahan was speaking at church. His topic was on honoring your mother. He made some very nice points but the one that brought it all home is what leads us to our funny story. You see, Pat's eldest son was sitting next to me working in the tech booth. Pat's wife was sitting behind the two of us. At the pinnacle of Pat's message, he pulled out a note that his eldest wrote to his mom for Mother's Day. All throughout the letter, Kelli started to weep more and more. By the end, she was sobbing big time. What a moment... I was sitting right between Mother and Son during this magical time. She is sobbing, he is hanging his head: part in embarrasement, part to hide his emotions from the rest of us in the booth. It was a great time to take a picture so I did. You know, kind of "Kodak; capture the moment" kind of stuff. I am sure that Kelli is going to appreciate me sharing this with the millions of people who read this blog every day. Sorry the quality is so bad and looks like it was taken with a cell phone. I took it with a cell phone.

Like a Viking that rides on the wings of a tempest!

Here is something I saw on PatMo. That guy has some funny stuff. If your a guy and you have a moustache, you will understand.

Dental Drama

So yesterday the young one had her first trip to the dentist requiring a shot. She had some cavities that needed filling. She was a champ and did great. I was very proud.

About 5 minutes after we were home, the younger one came running down screaming and yelling. I though something went wrong. As it turns out, the older one was chewing on some ice and broke a tooth in half. Yelling, blood everywhere... total chaos. It was already well after 5:00 so we called the dentist back right away. They asked a few questions then told us to bring him in this morning at 7:00.

Well good news, he made it through the night just fine and the tooth was a baby tooth. When they pulled out the other half, his molars were right behind it.

Super Funny

1. Get some balloons like these and tie them to your car.
2. Get on a local freeway and drive really fast, changing lanes a lot.
3. Watch everyone freak out.

Summer Vacation

We went to Maui in 2004 and loved it so much we started saving up for another trip as soon as we got home. The plan was to go back every 4 years. Well yesterday we "adjusted" that plan. Lisa and I were talking it through and it occurred to us that our kids are at that magical age where they can have fun and not worry about looking cool. By 2012, that may not be true anymore. We have always wanted to take the kids on a Disney cruise but kept putting it off. Well, this summer we go with Micky to Mexico. Lisa plans to go back to work part time in the fall so maybe we can go back to Hawaii in two years instead of four. Time will tell but for now, we are brushing up on our Spanish.

Jr. Water Polo

We just finished our spring season of winter water polo. We coach winter water polo to "hook" the incoming 5th-8th grade kids before they reach high school. The cool thing about this season was that my son and two of his friends played. We had a really fun season and the kids played well.
